Job Description

Objective: The Construction Superintendent is tasked with the daily coordination and guidance of the project and its personnel, ensuring the construction aligns with the proposed design and quality standards.

Reports to: This role reports to the General Superintendent and collaborates closely with the Project Manager and the project team.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Develop work schedules and assignments.
  • Enforce safety procedures and site regulations.
  • Manage the overall site and staff, including subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a detailed, cost-effective project completion plan.
  • Maintain daily reports, logs, and drawings.
  • Communicate performance and schedule updates to the Project Manager, addressing issues as they arise.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance ensuring adherence to quality and ethical standards.
  • Work with staff to develop preconstruction estimates and material/labor budgets.
  • Coordinate and schedule work activities, ensuring clear communication of instructions and assignments.
  • Inspect work regularly for quality and timeliness, providing progress reports and suggesting modifications when needed.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Secure necessary permits and licenses; execute contracts per agreements.
  • Monitor project budgets and communicate any variances.
  • Implement and manage construction schedules in the field, including 5-week look-ahead plans.
  • Adhere to and enforce safety protocols, managing meetings to discuss site progress and issues.
  • Develop a site-specific safety plan for each assigned project.
  • Understand owner requirements, project plans, and specifications thoroughly.
  • Authorize and document field change requests, ensuring compensation for all work.
  • Ensure project schedule adherence through tracking and communication.
  • Participate in client presentations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 7-10 years of experience as a commercial superintendent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and coordinate diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to read and execute blueprints and plans.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction legal requirements and quality practices.
  • Problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency.
  • Proficiency in ComputerEase, Procore, Excel, and Word preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to see well (with or without correction), coordinate hand-eye movements, use hands and arms fully, climb ladders and scaffolding, and handle physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to navigate construction sites in all weather conditions is essential.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field is required. A minimum of four years of experience in the building trade is also necessary.
